About Iqadi Horse Racing Association
Rooted in heritage. Driven by racing. Built for the future. Operating the premier racecourse at Amatata Inanda Dam, Iqadi Horse Racing Association shapes the competitive life, equine welfare, and economic future of rural racing across KwaZulu-Natal.
Who we are.
Iqadi Horse Racing Association NPC is a registered sporting body endorsed by the KwaZulu-Natal Economic Regulator (KZNERA). Based at Amatata Inanda Dam, we serve as the institutional home for rural horse owners, jockeys, trainers, breeders, and traditional equine enthusiasts, building a disciplined, globally visible, and economically empowering sport.
Our strategic north stars.
Honouring the generational heritage of the Inanda valley and the people who nurture it, while developing structured racing disciplines accessible to global audiences.
Transparent, sustainably funded, and anchored in the highest standards of horse welfare—an industry KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa are proud to present to the world.
The four pillars behind every operational decision we make, from trackside safety barriers to corporate partnerships and youth jockey development.

Regulatory Alignment
The association establishes formal engagement with the KwaZulu-Natal Economic Regulator, adopting standardized veterinary checkups and racecourse regulations.
Venue Development
Installation of safety running rails, dedicated starting barriers, ambulance access corridors, and vendor trading zones around Inanda Dam.
Digital Era
Partnership with TrotStar Media to stream feature race meetings live on YouTube, connecting rural champions with international equestrian audiences.
The four commitments that shape every race meeting at Amatata.
No horse enters an Iqadi track without veterinary pre-inspection, hydration checks, and age verification. We maintain strict penalties against over-racing, fatigue, and abusive equipment.
Our racecourses are community wealth generators. Every fixture reserves vendor spaces for local caterers, youth grooms, stable hands, and traditional craftspeople.
Complete adherence to provincial sporting frameworks, transparent dispute resolution, fair barrier allocations, and strict spectator boundary compliance.
Providing rural riders with professional safety equipment, protective helmets, accredited riding workshops, and opportunities to transition into commercial racing careers.
Surrounded by the natural vistas of Inanda Dam in eThekwini, Amatata Racecourse combines traditional sprint straightaways with scenic topography. Designed for both spectator safety and pure equine speed.
